I don’t have a drop of yellow in my home or my wardrobe, but I’m warming to its charms. I have to admit that with all this rain lately, yellow has a fresh appeal. It’s sunny, invigorating and a great companion for grey — everyone’s go to neutral these days.
Artist Nina Sampaleanu created this gorgeous encaustic for the Absolut Lemon competition at The Artist Project. It reminds me of an African headdress.

B.C. Artist Bobbie Burgers captures the magic of yellow in this striking painting from Gallerie de Bellefeuille in Montreal. Bobbie, who is based in Vancouver is represented by five galleries across the country. She’s known for her large botanicals, pastoral landscapes and deft use of rich colour. The rich layering of colour in artist Anne Barkley’s painting for the Absolut Lemon competition earned her second prize. It was certainly my favourite. You can see more of Anne’s work here.
I was also drawn to this textured painting by artist Kay Plante. Her interest in natural forms is a common thread in her work.
